I loved the subversion of this retelling while Rhen is arrogant and angsty, that’s not his entire character. Grey has his undying loyalty to Rhen and forms a bond with Harper as well. Rhen has dealt with his curse and the three hundred seasons and girls who don’t fall in love with him. Harper has cerebral palsy but doesn’t let it get in the way of anything, whether it’s pretending to be a princess or learning to throw knives. However, I am greatly disappointed in my decision. I’ve heard great things about A Curse So Dark and Lonely for so long, but I put it off because I didn’t really feel like reading another Beauty and the Beast retelling.
